Community Action’s Backpack for Kids program
Community Action Program, Region VII, Inc. developed the Backpack for Kids program in December of 2006 to address the need for food for children identified as being homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Bismarck/Mandan area. Children are served breakfast and lunch while attending school during the week but some do not have adequate food on the weekends.
Backpacks are filled with “kid friendly” nutritious food items and are delivered to the schools where school personnel then distribute the backpacks to children in need.
Community Action’s Backpack for Kids program serves 35 schools and provides over 2,000 bags of food each month.
